We work hard to get things right, and we check every update before it is published. When we still get something wrong, we fix it quickly and openly. This page lists every significant correction we have made, newest first.
Report an error
Email correnctions@naijavote.tech with:
- a link to the update, fact check or page;
- what you believe is wrong;
- any evidence that shows the correct information, such as an INEC notice, court document or official statement.
We read every report and aim to respond within [time frame]. On election days we prioritise reports about voting arrangements and results. You can report an error anonymously; we only use your details to follow up on your report.
How we handle changes
- Correction: we got a fact wrong, such as a name, number, date, place or quote. We fix the update, add a note at the end saying what was wrong and when it was fixed, and list it below.
- Clarification: the facts were right but the wording could mislead. We reword the update and add a note explaining the change.
- Update: the story developed after we published, for example INEC announced new information. We add the new information with a timestamp. Updates are not errors, so they are not listed below.
- Withdrawal: an update was wrong at its core, or we could no longer stand behind its sources. We take it down, leave a note in its place explaining why, and list it below.
Changes to our live feed reach readers in real time, so anyone who has the page open sees the corrected version without refreshing. Corrections to translations follow the same rules as corrections in English.
We change a fact check’s rating if new evidence shows the original rating was wrong, and we explain the change on the fact check itself.
